New Banca del Vecchio Bank Site

City of Florence - Italy

1997 - 1998

Work on this project involved the restoration and rebuilding of two historical structures, constructed in the 1800s following the demolition of the medieval city wall and located along the city’s ring road.

The project of restoration and of functional adaptation was divided into three different operations: structural consolidation; functional adaptation for better use of interior space (including the creation of a “technical zone” intended for services and file storage and placed longitudinally across all floors); and the restoration of the façades through a stylistic approach that recaptured the original décor and redeveloped a garden located within the framework of the restoration.

A new formal design for part of the garden emphasized the relationship between built and green spaces, lending a new, more natural prominence to the garden itself.
