A new vertical connection joins the first  floor of the exhibition space to street level. The stairway also connects the basement level, where educational areas are located, to the street and to the mezzanine, which corresponds to the nave of the Church of San Pier Scheraggio where temporary exhibitions will be on display.

The stairway will serve exclusively as a means for members of the public to exit the gallery at the conclusion of their visit and is planned for the space currently occupied by the service stairs behind the Church of San Pier Scheraggio as well as a portion of the old Vasari complex itself involving, all told, a zone as wide as the entire southern nave of the old church.
